The Australian mobile telecommunications industry offers free blocking for handsets reported lost or stolen. This prevents thieves using phones to run-up bills and is a powerful deterrent because stolen handsets will be blocked across all networks, making them inoperable in Australia.

If your mobile handset is lost or stolen:
Contact your mobile service provider (i.e. the company the bills you or the one that you purchase recharges from).
