Never Leave it in the Car

Almost half of all mobile thefts are from cars. Apart from the replacement cost, there's usually damage to the car to pay for as well. Remember, a mobile left in a car is an invitation to a thief.

Keep it on you, not near you.

The habit of putting your mobile down - for instance, on a shop counter or table in a pub, club or cafe - is asking for trouble. It's easy to forget it as well as being easy for a thief to see and grab. Keep it hidden.

Times to keep it quiet.

Along with keeping it out of sight, there are times when it is wise to switch the ring tone off and activate the vibrate function. Ring tones attract the attention of thieves which can lead to theft with assault. You are particularly vulnerable when on your own and/or when few people are about, for instance at a railway station late at night. Busy places where a thief can 'disappear into the crowd' - like markets and sporting venues - are also recommended 'no ring zones'.
